While she originally dated George briefly, Iris Fenton would prove to be the muse that inspired Paul McCartney to write "I Saw Her Standing There". Alan, Iris's older brother, was Rory of Rory Storm and the Hurricane's which featured Richard Starkey on drums. Iris met George first when he was only 12 - she was 14. George was her first kiss. She and Paul were an item for two years. The boys in the band often came by her parent's house after playing at the Cavern. They particularly loved her Mum Vi, who kept them well fed.
When Brian Epstein first signed the Beatles he was adamant that they not be seen with any particular girl. It was best if the boys appeared available. So, Iris and Dot Rhone, and Cynthia Powell who were all early fans and girl friends of Paul and John respectively, had to keep a low profile.
John met Cynthia Powell at the Liverpool College of Art and they began dating in the fall of 1958. When she became pregnant with son Julian, she and John were married in August of 1962. In May 1968, she returned from a vacation in the Greek islands to find John with Yoko sitting in their kitchen in white robes staring into each others eyes. The couple divorced in November of 1968.
Ringo met Maureen, born Mary Cox, a hair dresser in training at the Cavern Club. Despite Brian Epstein's orders Maureen and Ringo were inseparable, often putting her at odds with other female fans. The two were married in early 1965 in London. The two were married for 10 years and had three children, Zak, Lee and Jason.
Boyd claims that Harrison's first words to her when they met were "Will you marry me, if you won't marry me, will you have dinner with me tonight." The couple married in January 1966, Paul McCartney was best man. George and Patty divorced in 1977. The songs "I Need You" and "Something" were written about her.
Paul first spotted Jane, who was a child actress, on the weekly TV show "Juke Box Jury" where she appeared as one of the judges. They met when she interviewed the Beatles in 1963. Their relationship lasted five years. The became engaged in 1967, but Jane ended the relationship in February 1968 after she discovered Paul in bed with Francie Shwartz. Paul was also seeing "Mod Squad" star Peggy Lipton at about this time.
Paul met Linda in May of 1967 at a club in London called the Bag O' Nails. Linda Eastman, of Eastman Kodak, was there on a magazine assignment to photograph the "swinging sixties". She attended the launch party for " Sgt. Pepper" held at Brian Epstein's house outside of London four days later. They met again in 1968 when John and Paul flew to New York to announce the formation of Apple Corp. The couple married on March 12th 1969. Linda had succeeded in landing the remaining single Beatle, much to my sister's great disappointment. Paul and Linda had four children, Heather, from Linda's first marriage, followed by Mary, Stella and James.
John met avant garde artist Yoko Ono in 1966 at the Indica Gallery in London. They were introduced by the Gallery owner and Lennon was invited to view the show prior to it's opening to the public. The two became romantically involved in 1968. While Cynthia was away on holiday in Greece in May of 1968, the two spent the night recording "Unfinished Music No. 1; Two Virgins" the first of many albums together, after which they made love as the sun came up.
